Canada’s YWCA, our country’s largest daycare provider and a top lobbyist for more public money for daycare centres, awarded Goldcorp mining company its “Woman of Distinction Award” for “Outstanding Workplace” for its women- and “family-friendly” polices, despite that company’s tragic record of violence, death, disease, workers’ and human rights abuse, toxic poisoning, and environmental destruction in its mines in Guatemala and Honduras.
