GENDER EQUITY: What is it? World Economic Forum Gender Equity Rankings

The WEF is made up of the highest-profit multibillion-dollar corporations.

The WEF is a big promoter of “gender equity”. (Gender equity has displaced “women’s equality” and “women’s liberation”).  The WEF explains that “gender equity” is not about “empowering women”, it’s about female labour supply.

Daycare lobbyist Paul Kershaw, in an article in The Tyee  Stress Is Killing Gender Equality in Canada | The Tyee in 2013 cited 2012 WEF “gender equity” rankings to show Canada is a “laggard”.

South Africa  — in 2012 the rape capital of the work — ranks well above Canada in “gender equity”.

In 2024 in gender equity South Africa is #18, Canada is #36.

In rape South Africa in 2024 is #3 at 72.1 per 100K, and Canada is #97 at 1.69 per 100K.

Gender equality vs. women’s empowerment

The third distinguishing feature of the Global Gender Gap Index is that it ranks countries according to their proximity to gender equality rather than to women’s empowerment. Our aim is to focus on whether the gap between women and men in the chosen variables has declined, rather than whether women are “winning” the “battle of the sexes”. Hence, the Index rewards countries that reach the point where outcomes for women equal those for men, but it neither rewards nor penalizes cases in which women are outperforming men in particular variables.
