Ontario Human Rights commission used to force teachers to teach phonics and cursive writing

The Ontario Human Rights Commission did a report called “The Right to Read” and forced the Ministry of Education to teach kids phonics and cursive writing in 2023. The report found that current teaching methods violate children’s rights because they are not based on peer-reviewed evidence. The teachers’ union opposed the requirement.
