PUBLIC ALERT & ACTION:
IT’S DATA-MINING SEASON IN BC SCHOOLS

JUST SAY “NO!” TO BIG BRO

SUMMARY
1- January – April is the season for data-mining in BC schools. The BC Ministry of Education and Child Care lets UBC’s Human Early Learning Partnership (HELP) do surveys is school that mine kids’ and families’ data abetted by BC teachers.
2 – HELP ignores parental consent and uses “passive consent” – which means no consent.
3 – Kindergarten teachers and students in grades 4-12 do surveys called the EDI, MDI, and YDI.
4 – The data from these long questionnaires is then given to PopDataBC, whose goal is to be the world’s largest data-bank. The data is “linked” to all other private data of BC residents.

This is another gross violation of trust we put in teachers and schools.

ACTION: FORWARD THIS INFO AND…

1- TELL YOUR CHILDREN TO REFUSE TO DO THE SURVEY AND TO TELL THEIR FRIENDS

2 – TELL YOUR SCHOOL TO BAN HELP & KEEP YOUR CHILDREN OUTOF SURVEYS

3- TELL UBC PRESIDENT TO END HELP & POPDATA’S VIOLATION OF OUR PRIVACY

4 – TELL PREMIER EBY & YOUR MLA & BC MINISTER OF EDUCATION & CHILD CARE TO:
– KEEP HELP OUT OF SCHOOLS

THE DATA MINING PROCESS

HELP provides digital tablets to be used to fill in the on-line surveys that have 100+ questions about the student’s personal life, health, diet, household members, family life, feelings, activities, beliefs, friends, etc.

The survey data is then “linked” to all other data the governments have on you and your children by BC’s massive data bank at Population Data BC located at UBC. Read more below.

Before the surveys are done, before parents can ‘opt out’, and without parental consent, our BC government gives HELP all students’ names, data of birth, indigenous status, gender, Personal Education Number, and postal codes.

BIG BRO SAYS NO TO PARENTAL CONSENT

HELP uses so-called “PASSIVE CONSENT”  = no consent, or ‘negative opt out’ rather than informed, written, active parental consent as legally required by the Canadian Privacy Commissioner.

Parents are supposed to be sent a letter or email in December that provides a bit of info about the surveys. Most parents don’t get it or don’t read it. The letter does not explain the full extent of the data mining and “data linkage” and does not mention PopDataBC.

THE SURVEYS in HELP’S POPULATION “MONITORING SYSTEM”

The data mining is done through HELP’s ‘surveys’  – questionnaires with over 100 questions:

1 – the Early years Development Instrument (EDI) – done by Kindergarten teacher. Teachers get time off and substitutes are hired.
Early Development Instrument – Overview

2 – the Middle years Development Instrument (MDI)  – done by students in grades  4,5,6,7,8 during school time.

3- PARENTS ARE NOT EVEN GIVEN LETTERS ABOUT THIS ONE – the Youth Development Instrument – done by students in grades 10,11,12

NO SURVEY AVAILABLE ON-LINE

THE SURVEY DATA THEN GOES TO BC’S MEGA DATA MINE: PopDataBC

HELP sends all the data mined to Population Data BC which collects, LINKS,  and stores and sells the personal data of all 5.4 million BC residents going back to 1985 according to its website.

PopDataBC stores our data in The Population Directory which has our name, postal code, and a unique number for each BC resident. It stores, links, and sells our private data including: perinatal, medical, pharmaceutical, hospital, school, income, immigration, daycare, vital stats, child support, child protection, Stats Can data, etc. Data mining is from SPERM TO WORM and beyond.

POPDATA’S GOAL

PopData ” Population Data BC aims to become the world’s most comprehensive data resource on factors that influence human health, well-being and development.” A little history | Population Data BC

FOUNDER WORKED FOR WORLD BANK

HELP and PopDataBC were both founded by the late Dr Clyde Hertzman, an epidemiologist who worked for years with the World Bank in Eastern Europe.THe fact that he was on staff at the World Bank is omitted from all his media, bio, and CV and obituary info. World Bank Document (more evidence available).

HELP’S LOBBYING LIES

Hertzman and colleague Paul Kershaw were never a child specialists but became renowned as top child experts through HELP’s extreme lobbying for daycare and all-day Kindergarten. They used the EDI in their fraudulent claims that these programs improve kids’ outcomes and will save Canada trillions of dollars. HELP’s tax-funded lobbying was essential to establishing cheap $10/day daycare and all-day K systems across Canada.
